New Age Pragmatism—-the way of the world.

In the last article we went over Pantheism (the false belief that God is an impersonal “life force” that flows thru all things) and how this philosophy is behind many healing therapies that claim to utilize this universal “energy.” So now let’s go over how its rising influence upon society is causing many to buy into it—-literally. One way is through Pragmatism; the belief that whatever produces positive results must be truth. So in this line of thinking, if obeying the true gospel of Jesus Christ isn’t what “works” then we need an alternative. And that’s exactly what the New Age offers. After all, many alternative therapies appear to be good, just as the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden appeared good….at first (Gen.3:6).

Let’s take acupuncture for instance. Like Iridology, Reflexology, Reiki and many other healing therapies, it claims to tap into what they call our energy “meridians.” Supposedly so we can obtain forbidden knowledge, be “in tune” with our own divinity and live in perfect health. Yet there’s no real scientific evidence to prove any medical benefit, although there’s a lot of “anecdotal” evidence, which are just testimonials of those who’ve fallen for this perversion of the gospel(Gal.1:6-9, 1Tim.4:1).

Consequently, I have a few testimonies of my own about the power working behind these therapies, which is why I can now warn others to never underestimate the power of suggestion. It’s been the devils main tool since the Garden of Eden. All he has to do to start the process is to get us to doubt God’s truth and exchange it for a lie. By getting Adam and Eve to focus on temporary results instead of the long-term spiritual consequences of rebelling against God, they fell for the suggestion to eat forbidden fruit.

And this is exactly how modern pragmatism works today. It’s just the same old lie under a new pretense, which reminds me of the time I went into business with a very persuasive herbalist years ago, to sell a product that claimed to have many health benefits. But once I started doing my own research I found out that it was full of cheap fillers with barely any of the main ingredient that was supposed to help people.  So I found another product that just had the main ingredient at the same price.

Excited about what I’d found, I went back to the herbalist, thinking they’d rather sell this instead, because they acted like they really wanted to help people. Little did I know then that I had gotten into what’s called a “Pyramid Scheme.” So to my surprise, they told me they’d be crazy to stop selling the flawed product because they were making a fortune off people. And when they saw how shocked I was they tried to convince me it wasn’t really dishonest because they said if people believed it helped them, then it would!!

And that’s the most perfect, personal example of modern Pragmatism I can think of. All they have to do is convince people that it works and they will experience a major placebo effect. The question is, would they still buy into it if they knew they were just being tricked into thinking it was working?? Sadly, many would because they’d rather exchange the truth for a lie as long as they get the temporary results they desire.

This is described perfectly in Isaiah 30: 9-10 where it says, “this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord: which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things; speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits.” So friend, along with Apostle Paul, I just have to ask “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth” (Gal.4:16)? Or will you heed God’s warnings (e.g. Deut.18:10-12, 1Sam. 15:23, Jer.14:14, Hosea 4:12, Eph.5:11, 1Tim.6:9-10, 2Pet.3:17)?

Beware of Pragmatism!

Theology of Suffering

Recently I was shown a brochure many are finding in their mailboxes these days.  The main subject of this one was why there’s suffering in the world.  I’d also just recently heard a speech on the same subject, by a well-known Christian, Joni Erickson Tada, who’s been quadriplegic most of her life.  She explained how many today push the idea that God is just a distant observer who’s not really personally involved in His creation and that evil and suffering just happens randomly. Ironically, this is also what that brochure was pushing and its called Deism.   But Joni explained what she called the “theology of suffering,” where God allows what He hates in order to accomplish what He loves.  And she said God’s sovereignty in suffering can be better understood if we look to the suffering of Jesus.

For example, in Acts2:23 and 4:28 we see that God determined beforehand what would happen to Jesus.  We also see here how God ordains for His purposes to be brought about by “wicked hands.”  He sovereignly directed their wickedness to fulfill His purposes, even though they didn’t realize it (Prov.20:24, Jer.10:23).  And although the wicked do it from evil motives, God does it sinlessly, for He cannot do evil (Job 34:10-12).

Even as far back as Genesis 45:5-8 we see God directing the evil actions of the wicked in order to bring about His purposes.  Joseph’s brothers meant evil against him, but Gen. 50:20 says God meant it for good, because He is good and all that He does is good.  In fact, He works all things for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Rom.8:28).  So we can be comforted in knowing that we can have hope in God, for there is no random, purposeless evil or suffering in this world.

So are the wicked excused because God directs their wickedness to fulfill His purposes?  Absolutely not, because God didn’t cause them to be wicked, He only directed the evil that was already in their heart.  We are all responsible to God no matter what (Rom. 9:20).  And even when God works good from our evil, we cannot take any credit for it.  Yet, if God hadn’t set up everything this way, we’d think we could control everything and even take credit for our own salvation.  But God has set everything up so perfectly, that we might get a glimpse of how beautiful and miraculous His grace and mercy really is.

But personally, even after writing about the sovereignty of God for over 2 years now, I still can’t completely wrap my feeble mind around it.  And it seems that along with every article I’ve written, God in His mercy has often disciplined me thru some very painful depths of suffering to bring me to the end of myself.  Perhaps to save me from the prideful pitfalls that often happen when one tries to proclaim the beauty of God’s sovereignty and salvation.  All I know is that it’s been only in my weaknesses that I’ve truly been able to realize the strength of God’s grace.

And so when it comes to God’s sovereignty, in puddles of tears and pleas for mercy, I have to confess, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it” (Psa. 139:6).  “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out” (Rom.11:33).  So along with Paul I have to say, I am determined to know nothing among you, except Christ and Him crucified (1Cor.2:2).                                                                                                                                                                   Sis. Going Public

As a former volunteer counselor at a “Christian”

pregnancy resource center, I have grown to dearly

love and cherish my clients and the staff, making

it hard to privately confront heretical issues, shake

the dust from my feet and warn publicly, but zeal

and love for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has

consumed me.  I have agonized in prayer day and

night, earnestly seeking God on what to do w/ what

He has continued to confirm repeatedly thru His

Word, that when hypocrisy and heresy threaten to

undo the liberty of the gospel, harms others and

destroys truth, believers must follow Jesus and the

apostle’s example.

According to Gods Word, as the body of Christ we

are to be the guardian and pillar of truth, the salt and

the light.  Although salt burns an open wound, it

purifies.  If we lose our seasoning, we are good for

nothing and will trampled on and spiritually raped

by the heresy of our day.  The correction of false

doctrine and practice in the New Testament was

always publicly addressed because it was a public

offence, spreading like cancer and shipwrecking the

faith of many, just as it does today.

My heartfelt prayer is that genuine public repentance

and renewal of true Christian fellowship will result

from bringing to light what was hidden in the darkness,

so that the grievous wounds of heresy within the

Christian arena can be healed and cleansed by the

Light of Jesus Christ, who is the Truth.  May He be

glorified by the work He has ordained for us to

walk in.

Sole Authority of Scripture

First and foremost, I’d like to say that I will take all that commenters say into consideration, but God’s Word is my final authority. So let’s please always keep our focus centered on the issues at hand. To any who may want to be a stumbling block to the goals of this site—I would ask– Do you believe Apostle Paul was a “witch hunter”, or “in bondage to fear” because he warned others day and night with tears(Acts 20:28-31) coming to them in “fear, weakness and trembling– not with excellence of speech” 1 Cor. 2:3-4, 2 Cor. 10:10?
True love, witnessing and “being Jesus to people” also includes warning them so they do not follow “another Jesus/another gospel” 2 Cor. 11:4 Anything less is apostasy and hate for God and all who would come to Him.
Some fence sitters would say “I’d rather just keep in the truth and not think of the “negative” because it leads to neglecting our witness of being Jesus to people.
Again, my response to that would be that to “keep in the Truth” would also require first being in the truth. Jesus warned to make sure the light in us is not really darkness (Luke 11:35).
I’m just doing what God has called me to do according to His word, not according to Joel Olsteen, Bill Johnson, Joyce Meyer, Oprah Winfrey, or Naomi Judd. In fact, had someone witnessed truth to Naomi when she was downtrodden instead of giving her an “all love” philosophy, perhaps she would not be New Age now.
I have “soul winning” to do and others spiritual welfare to consider, which means I must contend for the faith against the wolves that are always coming up against the true gospel of Jesus Christ. They “promise people liberty but truly bring them into bondage.” I know personally, because I’ve been there. I know God hasn’t opened my eyes just so I can watch others go down the same path that almost destroyed me and my children.
According to God’s Word, its clear that my concern for others spiritual welfare and the free reign of the gospel is not considered “neglect” but rather the utmost love and diligence in “studying (and researching) to show myself approved to God” (2 Tim. 2:15) not to mankind.
True believers, please, don’t fall for their accusations, be assured it is not paranoid “suspicion” to heed the Bibles warning to beware of false teachers, prophets, etc.
Just a reminder that if we continually sit under false teachers or keep silent long enough we become desensitized, deprogrammed and deceived to the point of becoming spiritually paralized. We are to fear God, not man. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” Prov. 9:10
I will continue to pray that visitors here will act upon all that the Holy Spirit may be trying to show them.
Be encouraged, if you are scared, you are not alone. True courage is acting, even while fearful. But remember that if one rebels against what God reveals to them, thru His Word, at least you can face God and say you tried to warn them by “rightly dividing the Word of truth.
Believers are not on a “mission of seperation” as some say— Jesus does the dividing Himself (Luke 12:51). Who is on the Lords side?

He’s Worthy

What can I say; I am consumed w/ love and zeal for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His love is worth dying for, dying to self, dying to peoples approval, dying to getting that career I was hoping for, dying to the seven years I put into college, and dying to the work references I needed from the pregnancy center.  God must love us too much to give us the lesser things in life.  Jesus died that we can have life more abundant—–Life in Him.

And as the song goes, “What if His blessings come through raindrops?  What if His answers come through tears?  What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know that He is near?”  Believers, we are made near by the blood of Jesus.  Tell me, isn’t He worth the suffering?

“I would not work my soul to save, for that my Lord hath done.  But I would work like any slave, for love of Gods dear son!
